Gender and the Office of the Secretary

First things first: I don’t mean “gender,” I mean “sex.” But I’m hesitant to have the word “sex” in the title of my post, lest it be misunderstood.

Now. The substance of this post:

From 1979 (I don’t have earlier information at my fingertips) to 1989, the position of Secretary of the District of Columbia was held by men. Since 1989, the position has been held exclusively by women, with the interesting exception of one day in 1990. (See Mayor’s Orders 90-227 and 90-228.)
