Advice for the DC government from Stephen Sondheim

I love love love Into the Woods. (Song I’ll play on nearly infinite repeat? “On the Steps of the Palace.”)

But it seems to me that too often politicians — I’m not limiting this to just the current crop of DC elected officials — have been listening only to the very end of “Maybe They’re Magic” and it’s Machiavellian lesson, “if the end is right, it justifies the beans.”

What they should be listening to, instead, is Little Red Riding Hood: “I Know Things Now.” Take-away? Nice is different than good.

*h/t to SocialJerk, who reminded me in her post this morning to switch from my Simon & Garfunkel Pandora station to my Into the Woods station.
